








This workshop covers three NIH fellowship opportunities for PhD students pursuing research careers in fields that improve human health: theNIH F30,F31, andF99/K00.TheF30andF31provide funding for up to five (F31) or six (F30) years of doctoral studies for U.S. citizens, US nationals, and permanent residents.These fellowships are available to early- and mid-stage PhD students, as long as you have about two years of study remaining.TheF99/K00funds the final 1-2 years of a PhD and up to three years of postdoctoral funding for cancer-related research. It is open to all students, regardless of citizenship or permanent residency status.The workshop also introduces theNIH Loan Repayment Program, whichrepays up to $50,000 annually ofqualified educational debt in return for those conducting NIH mission-relevant research.

In this interactive workshop first and second-year grad students will be motivated to begin planning their NSF GRF applications through learning writing strategies and requirements for a competitive application. Students will be given instruction on how to compose an outline for their personal and research statements emphasizing the motivating qualities valued by the NSF. Recommended timelines for writing and methods for requesting letters of recommendation will also be explained.
